Understanding booking statuses
What Pending, Confirmed, Declined, Cancelled, and Completed mean — and what happens to your money in each.
Every booking moves through a set of statuses from the moment you request until after your trip ends. Here's what each one means, what happens to your money, and what action to take.
- Pending — your request is with the host for review. Nothing is charged to your card while it's pending. Action: wait for the host's response, or cancel if you change your mind (no charge).
- Confirmed — the host approved your request and your card was charged on the schedule shown at checkout: the listing's deposit up front, with any balance auto-charged 30 days before the trip. Action: message the host for arrival details and prepare for your trip.
- Declined — the host couldn't take your dates. Nothing was charged. Action: try different dates on the same listing, or browse alternatives in the marketplace.
- Cancelled — the booking was cancelled, either by you or the host. The booking page states the exact outcome: what was refunded to the card on file (posting within 5–10 business days) or why no refund was due. When you cancel, the amount follows the listing's cancellation policy; when the host cancels, they choose the refund — full is the default. Action: request a refund review if the cancellation was the host's and you incurred costs.
- Completed — the trip happened. Action: leave a review within 14 days, and save the listing if you'd rebook.
You'll get an email at every status change, regardless of your notification settings — these are transactional and always sent.
