Cancellation policies explained

Flexible, Moderate, and Strict — what each refunds, how the policy gets set, and what hosts choose when they cancel.

Every listing has a cancellation policy that determines how much you get back if you cancel. The policy is shown on the listing page and again on the booking detail page right above the cancel button — always check it before you cancel.

The three policies

  1. Flexible — full refund if you cancel at least 7 days before the trip. Inside 7 days, no refund.
  2. Moderate — full refund if you cancel 30 or more days before the trip; 50% refund inside 30 days.
  3. Strict — 50% refund if you cancel 60 or more days before the trip; no refund inside 60 days.

How a policy gets set

Each outfitter business picks a default cancellation policy during hosting setup — it pre-fills every new listing they publish. A host can override that default on an individual listing if a particular hunt needs a stricter or more lenient policy. The policy shown on the listing is the one that applies to your booking. If a listing has no policy set, a cancellation refunds you in full.

What the percentage applies to

The policy's refund percentage applies to what has actually been charged so far — not the full trip price. If only the deposit has been charged, a 50% refund means 50% of the deposit. Any balance not yet charged is simply never charged.

If the host cancels a confirmed booking, the default is a full refund of everything you paid — but the host chooses the refund when they cancel: full, exactly what the listing's policy promises, or a custom amount. Either way you're emailed the cancellation with the exact refund amount in writing.

The exact refund amount is always displayed before you confirm a cancellation. If the number looks wrong, don't confirm — contact support first.
